Signs That You Need Air Conditioning Services

Every homeowner wants their air conditioner to be running in top condition when summer approaches. That said, a simple tune-up can go a long way in ensuring your AC unit is ready to work for long hours. All in all, you have to monitor your AC unit closely to know whether it needs repairs or maintenance.

By monitoring your AC unit often, you'll catch problems early on and have them sorted before they advance. So, if you spot or experience any of these signs, it's time to call for air conditioning services.

AC Blowing Warm Air

When you're battling the summer heat, you need your AC unit to keep your space cool and comfortable. Sadly, this might be impossible if your unit is blowing warm or hot air. This could be an indicator that something is amiss with your unit.

Either you are low on refrigerant, the outdoor unit has lost power, the thermostat is set incorrectly, or your evaporator coils are dirty. Whatever the case, you need to call an AC expert to correct the problem immediately.

Unusual Sounds

Unusual sounds are never a good sign, especially when coming from an air conditioning unit. That said, you shouldn't ignore any noises that are coming from your AC. It could be a warning sign that your unit is malfunctioning. An air conditioning unit will make different sounds depending on the circumstances.

For instance, buzzing noises could signal that the unit has loose parts, a malfunctioning compressor or a refrigerant leak. Popping or cracking sounds could mean that ice is forming inside the unit or that you have water drainage issues. Other noises might include:

  • Squealing
  • Rattling
  • Banging
  • Clicking

Air Conditioner Is Leaking Water

An air conditioner that is in good condition shouldn't leak water inside your home. AC units have systems that help them drain any moisture that collects inside the unit. So, if your air conditioner starts to leak water, there is a high likelihood the condensate drain line is clogged. In that case, water can't escape through the drain line, and it ends up inside your home.

Other reasons for AC leaks include:

  • Damaged drain pan
  • Broken condensate pan
  • Frozen evaporator coil
  • Dirty air filters

Unpleasant Odours

Another problem that might warrant calling for air conditioner services is unpleasant odours. If your AC smells musty, it could mean that fungus or mildew is growing in the drip lines or drain pan. Dirty or clogged filters can also cause foul odours in your home. That said, call an expert to clean the ducts and change the filters.
