Signs That Your AC Needs Servicing

Good airconditioning keeps your house at the perfect temperature. Split system air conditioning is one of the most common ways to regulate the temperature in your living space. It requires regular servicing to ensure it works perfectly. Here are three signs that your residential air conditioning needs servicing.

Odd Noises

Air conditioning systems are generally very quiet but may produce a soft hum. If you hear squeals and grating coming from the unit, it needs servicing. This may be a result of the compressor belt slipping from its place or loosening. Grating, squealing or grinding may be a sign that the moving parts need lubrication.

When an air conditioning unit's motor bearings break, you will hear grating noises. If you notice these noises coming from your air conditioner, call a technician immediately. If you do not repair the unit, it could be damaged further. The repair will cost even more money later.

Airflow problems

Your air conditioning systems are supposed to keep the entire house fresh. If you find that the fresh air is not circulating throughout your home, you should get a technician to service it. Compromised airflow could be as a result of a clogged air filter. The air filter traps lint, dust and other small particles. Over time, this hinders airflow.

You should have a professional check your air filter. Ensure that you replace the air conditioning unit filters regularly to prevent airflow problems. Broken blower fans also hinder airflow. In this case, you will hear rattling noises from the unit.

Bad Odours and Leaks

Bad odours are another sign that your air conditioning unit needs service. There are two possible smells that you could have. A musty smell and a burning smell. The musty smell is a sign that your unit has mould in it. Mould can adversely affect your health and that of the members of your family. The burning smell is a symptom of burnt wire insulation. Call a technician immediately to make repairs when you notice either of these.

Leaks from the air conditioner are hazardous. Leaking refrigerant is very dangerous. It can irritate the respiratory system as well as the stomach. If your pets or children eat it, they could get very ill. Water leaks may be a sign of a clogged drain tube.

Conclusion

Split system air conditioning requires regular servicing. If you notice any of the above things, call a technician immediately for help.
